On the whole I've never quite 'got' Terry Pratchett, but the Nome series and the Nac Mac Feegle books, I do get. They have me chortling away to myself.
As evidence of their appeal, this is my non-reader 15 year old, engrossed in Wee Free Men, which the inimitable, irrepressible Drew Buddie (aka digitalmaverick) has promised to read and release in podcast form. Drew will make the perfect Nac Mac Feegle. Crivens!

It's funny how a book will change the reading habits of your kids. My daughter is the non-reader in the house and just found the "Twilight" books. I just bought her the 3rd book, but won't give it to her until after her mid-term exams this week (because she'll be up until all hours reading it).
The same happened with my son when he was 10 and began reading the Harry Potter book. Last night he was at loose ends as he has run out of books from the pile he got for Christmas.
However, it is amazing how you can really tell a well written book (whether you are interested in the topic or not). I read both Twilight and Harry Potter as my kids did (a podcast would have been nice to listen to as I went back and forth to school) and I have to admit that I was captured by the story and their use of language. Oh, to be able to write like that!
